This class is geared for kids who want to know more about the technical skills of artistic expression in the teen range. Projects will be more in depth than the younger years, covering all the basic elements of art as applied to painting. We will work with watercolors, gouache, and acrylics. basic drawing skills will be covered in one of the earlier classes as it applies to planning a painting.
Classes will cover blending techniques, color theory, how to mix paints, layering, demonstrations, tutorial/guided painting, and personal projects to be decided on by each student. We will talk about style and what makes an artwork stronger visually. Students will learn how to work through the discomfort of being creative around others and showing their work in an environment that’s encouraging and inspiring. No formal critiques! At the end of the session students will have an art show with the opportunity to sell their work at yellow mug cafe if they choose

Students will engage with artwork spanning the centuries as well as living artists. This course is heavily focused on learning how to read artwork and understand the stories it could be telling as well as how to have a personal reflection and connect with the art. There is a studio component to the course that is designed to explore specific works of art and get in the minds of the creators who made them. We will NOT be learning how to “make great works” and diving into technical skills, rather we will be deepening our understanding and basic human need for artworks. each class will have 20-30 minutes of instruction and the rest of the time will be a studio experience where students will learn to copy or mimic the art/artist/artistic concepts discussed.
This is a fantastic choice for any young artist who is developing a personal style, as well as kids who feel they have ZERO artistic ability. We learn so much about ourselves and what we are capable of by knowing art.

This is an introductory course geared for kids who want to know more about the technical skills of artistic expression. Each week we will explore a new element of art and how to execute it through an art project. Classes will have 15-20 minutes of instruction and the rest will be studio time to work on their personal projects with Miss Abby’s help and guidance. We will cover topics like line, form and space (3d), basic color theory, texture, value, and artistic expression. Students will be introduced to a variety of mediums such as watercolors, charcoal, professional colored pencil, gouache, pastels, and ink. They do not need to know how to write or draw. They are here to explore what feels right to them and see what comes out. Towards the end of class each student will freely express whatever inspires them and we will have an art show with the option to sell their pieces.
